Does a brick chimney need waterproofing?
If it is exposed to the weather on all four sides — which is every chimney — yes. Brick and mortar soak up water; when that water freezes it opens the cracks and flakes the faces that end in a rebuild. A breathable water repellent stops the soaking without trapping moisture inside.
What that means
This is not paint and not a sealer. A sealer traps water in the brick, where it freezes and does the damage anyway. The product we use lets water vapour out while keeping rain from getting in.
Order matters: repairs first, then waterproofing. Repointing, a cracked crown or lifted flashing all need fixing before the repellent goes on, or it is protecting a chimney that is already leaking from somewhere else.
It is applied to a clean, dry chimney in dry weather and lasts for years, not forever. We note the date on your report so you know when to ask again.
