What the inspection levels mean

Level 1

The routine annual check on a chimney in continued service with no changes. We examine the readily accessible parts and the flue.

Level 2

Required when a property changes hands, after a chimney fire, or when the appliance or fuel changes. Includes a video scan of the flue. This is the one most house sales need.

Level 3

Where a serious hazard is suspected and confirming it needs removal of part of the structure. Rare, and only ever after Level 1 or 2.

You get a written report either way

Every inspection produces a dated report with photographs of what we found. That is what a solicitor, an insurer or a buyer will ask for — and it is yours to keep whether or not you have us do any work.

Before and after

Crowns and liners are the repairs people most want to see evidence of, so these are ours.

A chimney crown before repair: the concrete cap is cracked, the brick faces are spalling, and there is water staining down the stack.
A failed crown. Water gets in, freezes, and takes the brick apart.
Looking down a masonry flue at a newly fitted stainless steel liner, clean metal against old brick.
A new stainless liner, so combustion gases stay inside the flue.
